The Institute was founded in the early 1990s as a professional body for members in practice and graduates of IICH training courses.

The organisation is a company limited by guarantee and funded entirely by membership subscriptions.

Recently, the Membership voted to change the name of their professional body to Irish Institute of Cognitive & Humanistic Psychotherapy (IICHP) to better reflect the widening scope in practice of our Members in recent years.

Currently, we have two levels of membership, Accredited and Associate.  Accredited members of IICHP are required to be in ongoing clinical supervision and to engage in continuing professional development (CPD) and to familiarise themselves with current developments in clinical practice. Members must also carry public liability and professional indemnity insurance as a requirement for professional practice.  Associate members are usually IICH graduates  but are not currently in professional practice.

Many IICHP members have additional specialist training and qualifications in areas such as bereavement, family therapy, couple counselling, addictions, post-traumatic stress as well as life and business coaching. Please contact our office for further information, or visit our Members page to find a therapist in your area.
